Ingredients Needed To Make Valentine Cookies

  • 1 cup of softened butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups of Unbleached Flour
  • 3/4 cup of Sugar
  • 3/4 cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • 1 1/2 cup of Mini Chocolate Chips (you could use white chocolate chips if you want)
  • 1 1/2 cup of M&Ms

These are perfect for a Valentine treat!

Step by Step How To Make Chocolate Chip Valentine Cookies

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Put the butter, eggs, and vanilla into a mixing bowl.
  3. Once that is combined, you’re going to grab your dry ingredients and add in the flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. This is where you can add in a bit more flour if you want, just judge if your dough is too sticky.
  4. After the dough is formed, it’s time to fold in the chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of your M&Ms.
  5. Scoop out about 1″ balls of cookie dough and put them 2″ apart on the baking sheet. To prevent sticking, you can line with parchment paper.
  6. Put in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the middle of the cookie starts to brown.
  7. Take out of the oven and put the rest of the M&M’s on top.
  8. The cookies will need to cool for 5 minutes on a baking sheet and then move to a cooling rack for the rest of the time.

Why do my cookies come out flat?

Many people like them this way but there is actually a reason for this. If your butter is too soft, there’s a good chance that your cookies are going to spread out more while they’re baking, giving them that flat look and texture.

Another issue could be that you didn’t add enough flour but this would only be figured out by trial and error. If you want to add in more flour, just a tablespoon or two could be tried the next time that you make this simple cookie recipe.

How do you know if cookies are undercooked?

It’s all about the look and texture of your cookies. If you notice that the middle of the cookies still looks gooey, they’re going to be underdone. And if they are falling apart as you’re removing them off the baking sheet, that’s also another good indicator that your cookies need to be baked for a little bit longer as well.

What happens when you over bake cookies?

If you over bake these cookies, you’ll notice. Some key indicators that your cookies are over baked when they’re they’re burnt, they’re overly crispy once they’ve cooled down or they’re stuck to the cookie sheet.

They’re still edible but might have a different texture and taste.
