Ingredients Needed for this Recipe

Here’s what you need for these easy cookies!

  • All-Purpose FlourAll-Purpose Flour is a great choice for Christmas Thumbprint cookies because it provides a high level of gluten. Gluten is a protein that helps to give baked goods their structure. When flour is combined with water, the gluten forms long, elastic strands. This gives All-Purpose Flour the ability to trap gas bubbles, resulting in cookies that are light and airy. Christmas Thumbprint cookies are a delicate cookie, so All-Purpose Flour helps to give them the perfect texture. It’s also a good choice for Christmas Thumbprint cookies because it can be easily rolled out.
  • SaltSalt might not be the first ingredient you think of when making Christmas cookies, but it can actually be quite useful. A little bit of salt can help to enhance the flavor of the other ingredients, and it can also help to balance out sweetness. In addition, salt can help to prevent the cookies from spreading too much during baking.
  • Granulated SugarWhen the cookies are baked, the granulated sugar helps to create a crisp, crunchy texture. In addition, the Granulated sugar also helps to give the cookies a beautiful shiny appearance.
  • Large EggLarge eggs are the best choice for making Christmas thumbprint cookies. Large eggs have more whites, which results in a lighter, fluffier cookie. The extra whites also help to stabilize the cookies so they hold their shape better when baked. Large eggs also have more yolks, which gives the cookies a richer flavor and a softer texture.
  • Unsalted ButterUnsalted butter is often overlooked in favor of its saltier counterpart, but it actually has a lot to offer when it comes to baking Christmas cookies. For one thing, the absence of salt means that the flavor of the butter will be more pronounced in the final product.
  • Vanilla ExtractVanilla extract is often used in baking, and for good reason. Vanilla has a rich and complex flavor that can enhance both sweet and savory dishes. The flavor of vanilla pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the cookie dough, and the extract helps to bring out the other flavors in the recipe, such as almond or lemon.
  • Green, Red and White Chocolate ChipsGreen, red and white chocolate chips are perfect for Christmas thumbprint cookies! The green color is associated with Christmas trees, the red and white colors are traditional Christmas colors, and the chocolate flavor goes great with the other ingredients in the cookie. Plus, the chocolate chips add a nice texture to the cookie.
  • White Candy MeltsWhite Chocolate Candy Melts are a great choice for Christmas Thumbprint cookies because they give the cookies a beautiful “snow-kissed” look. The White Chocolate also compliments the Christmas colors of the chocolate chips. White Chocolate has a milder flavor than regular chocolate, so it doesn’t overwhelm the other flavors in the cookie.
  • Hershey KissesHershey Kisses are good on Christmas Thumbprint cookies because they add a bit of chocolate flavor without being too overwhelming. In addition, the Hershey Kisses add a bit of visual interest to the cookie.

How Do You Store Thumbprint Cookies So They Don’t Stick?

Christmas thumbprint cookies are a fun and easy holiday treat that the whole family can enjoy. But if you’re not careful, they can be a bit of a nightmare to store. The key is to keep them in an airtight container, with the cookies separated by layers of wax paper. This will help to prevent them from sticking together and becoming one big, sticky mess. If you want to be extra safe, you can also put the container in the fridge or freezer. Just make sure to take them out a few minutes before you plan to eat them, as they will be much harder to eat when they’re cold!

How Do You Keep Thumbprint Cookies from Going Flat?

Christmas thumbprint cookies are a classic holiday treat, but they can be notoriously difficult to make. One of the biggest challenges is keeping them from going flat. There are a few different things you can do to prevent this from happening. First, make sure you use butter that is at room temperature. If the butter is too cold, it will cause the cookies to spread. Second, be careful not to over-mix the dough. Over-mixing can also cause the cookies to spread. Finally, use a spoon or your thumb to create a well in the center of each ball of dough before baking. This will help the cookies keep their shape as they bake. With a little care and attention, you can make perfect Christmas thumbprint cookies that are both delicious and beautiful.

How Do You Store Cookies So They Don’t Dry Out?

First, make sure your cookies are completely cooled before storing them. If they’re even slightly warm, they’ll attract moisture and become soggy. Once they’re cooled, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. You can also put a piece of parchment paper or wax paper in the container to help absorb any excess moisture. And finally, don’t forget to label your cookies so you know which ones are which! Nothing is worse than reaching for a Christmas cookie only to realize it’s actually last year’s pumpkin spice cookie. By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your Christmas cookies stay fresh and delicious all season long.

Easy Christmas Thumbprint Cookies

Yield: 16 Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ¾ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 Stick Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup Green, Red and White Chocolate Chips
  • ½ Cup White Candy Melts
  • 16 Hershey Kisses

Instructions

    1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
    2. In a small bowl, sift together flour and salt. Set aside.
    3. In another bowl, cream together sugar and egg. Add butter and mix until fully incorporated.
    4. Add vanilla and mix.
    5. Slowly add dry ingredients into wet ingredients and fold with a spatula until cookie dough forms.
    6. Fold chocolate chips into cookie dough.
    7. Roll cookie dough into 1 inch spheres and place gently on lined baking sheet, at least 1 inch apart from each other.
    8. Using the back of a teaspoon, create an indent in the center of each cookie.
    9. Place in freezer for about 30 minutes.
    10. Remove cookies from freezer and allow to sit for 5 minutes. In the meantime, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    11. Bake cookies for about 12 to 14 minutes.
    12. Remove from oven and turn off heat. Using the same teaspoon, press down on the center of each cookie to make the indent a little deeper.
    13. While cookies are still warm, use a round cookie cutter about 2 inches in diameter to cut each cookie, making them uniform in size.
    14. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
    15. Place white candy melts in a microwavable bowl.
    16. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until completely melted.
    17. Add melted candy in each cookie’s center indentation, about 1 tsp. Place a Hershey kiss on top. Allow to set for at least 30 minutes.
    18. Serve and enjoy!
