These oatmeal cookies are just like the ones Grandma used to make. We love this vintage recipe!

Ingredients

Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Icing Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2- 3 Tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar together on medium speed.

Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well.

Add dry ingredients and mix just until combined.

Using a cookie scoop, place dough on a parchment lined baking sheet 1-2 inches apart.

Bake for 11-13 minutes, until edges just barely start to brown.

Let cool on pan for 5 minutes. Remove and finish cooling on rack.

For icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Icing should be thick enough that it doesn't run off cookies.

When cookies are completely cooled, dip cookies in icing. To get the crackled look, dip only the top of the cookie in the icing, do not submerge. Lift cookie straight up and let excess drip back into bowl.

Let icing set for about 30 minutes. Store in an air tight container.
